| Dr. Joe R. Blackstock is a graduate of Bluefield College (1968) in which he received an Associate of Science Degree. After finishing his degree, he attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and graduate in 1972. Dr. Blackstock then served as a Captain in the USAF 1972-1974. He was in charge of the Eye Services at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Ga.
Dr. Blackstock's distinguished past includes past presidencies with the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, Southwest Virginia Optometric Society, and the Bluefield College Alumni Association 1981 and 1983. He has also served on the Bluefield College Board of Governors from 1976-1994 at various times. Most recently he has served on the Board of Trustees of Bluefield College, 1993-2003. Currently, Dr. Blackstock serves as Vice President of the Board of the Voice of the Blue Ridge, a non-profit that provides services to people with visual impairments. Dr. Blackstock is now Co-President of Drs. Newman, Blackstock, and Associates, Optometrists, P.C. where he currently practices General Optometry with an emphasis on disease treatment and diagnosis, contact lenses, glasses, dry eye disease, and routine vision services. Additionally, Dr. Blackstock provides special "Low Vision" examinations to individuals with vision impairment. Dr. Blackstock is currently a member of the American Optometric Association, Virginia Optometric Association, and local Southwest Virginia Optometric Association. |
